Battle Of The Planets- Remembered

Over the weekend, Yoshi bought me an Anime DVD- Gatchaman aka Battle of the Planets from Rhino-- because he knows that I have a thing for these particular Japanese characters.

Last week, we had dinner with his friend Adrian, who writes the graphic novel Optic Nerve. I tried really hard to find things in common with him. I figured that he would like to talk about ComicCon in San Diego and geek out about comic books and anime. I mean, I was, until 5 months ago, dating an animator and I know a little bit about the animation/comic book world. Adrian, however, is not as nerdy as the animators that I know and when I told him about these Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) costumes that I made for halloween, he said that I would fit right in with the peeps at ComicCon-- he used a tone that made me feel really uncool. I really should have come back with "uncool is the new cool."

But don't get me wrong, Adrian is a totally sweet guy and very talented too.

Anyways-- to toot my horn-- me and my ex spent about 2 weeks designing, sewing, and plastering to come up with these really cool halloween costumes.

The odd thing is that while walking around the Castro to show these babies off, we ran into Yoshi, who I didn't know then, but who I am dating now-- which proves that this world is actually very tiny. He, of course, remembered the costumes and thought it would be cute to get me their newly (December) released DVD on Rhino. God Bless him.

Obviously, I Offend

So, it was pointed out to me today that I failed to mention Josef's BBQ. Well, what can I say, I like to keep this site a little lite. Talking about my friend's--without the appropriate pictures-- seems all mushy and shit.

But here goes:

Josef was in town two weekends ago. I managed to talk shit about Modest Mouse stuff that weekend, but did not get to discuss my Josef sighting.

Turns out, that Josef likes to get his drink on. In fact, when I got to his BBQ --on a deck overlooking downtown SF-- the first thing he did was to kiss my tattoo.... it was the first time that he had seen Placida since I got it. Next, we had some deep conversation-- there was a moment or two when we talked about our smelly exes. But the best part of the BBQ had to be when Josef poured beer all over himself. He figured that it was the best way to cover up the fact that he'd just spilled on his shirt. One beer on the head became two became four. And Yoshi topped it off with a squeeze of lemon (one of the beers had been a Corona).

This is why I miss Josef. Never a boring time. Never ever ever ever ever. And don't worry, I am emailing your cousin bout that job.

I Can Feel His Pain

MIAMI - Fed up with his troublesome car, a Florida man fired five rounds from a semi-automatic pistol into the hood of the 1994 Chrysler LeBaron.

“I’m putting my car out of its misery,” 64-year-old John McGivney said after the incident outside an apartment building in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, according to a police report that listed the car as “deceased.”

McGivney surrendered to police, was jailed on a firearms charge Friday and released on bond a day later. He told officers the car had been giving him trouble for years.

“I think every guy in the universe has wanted to do it,” the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Wednesday quoted McGivney as saying. “It was worth every damn minute in that jail.”

I Am Posting Just To Post

Weekend fun??? I noticed that my friend Fay called me this weekend. I have yet to call her back since I only remembered that I listened to my messages completely wasted on Saturday.

I went to Mind Zap-- good fun-- I ran away from the pot brownies. No good for me. Last time I took them, I started freaking out and couldn't enjoy the Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand and Interpol show I was at. I will never forgive my sister for giving me those evil mouth yummies.

Let's see-- on Sunday, I went to a cat show in Hayward. I think that cat show people are the same type of people that hang out in casinos in Reno or Laughlin, Nevada. Not the classy peeps, but the tan, leathery skin, tiger strip wearing, pink lipstick loving, virginia slims smoking, type of peeps. I want a Japanese Bobtail. Or, an Ocicat. Or, a Havana Brown.

More On Ratzinger.

In his memoirs, Ratzinger speaks openly of being enrolled in the Nazi youth movement against his will when he was 14 in 1941, when membership was compulsory. He says he was soon let out because of his studies for the priesthood.

Two years later, he was drafted into a Nazi anti-aircraft unit as a helper, a common fate for teenage boys too young to be soldiers. Enrolled as a soldier at 18, in the last months of the war, he barely finished basic training.

New Pope Sucks

I think it is official. Time to ditch the Catholic Church for good. They chose that Ratzinger guy as pope...will the Vatican ever learn??? The more conservative they get, the more people they lose to other faiths. AND this guy is 78!! I mean seriously-- he's not going to live very long....we'll have another pope in a year or something. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

This for you Pope Benedict XVI:

Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's.

Have one on the house, old man!!

I Need, I Need...

a frickin vacation. I can't wait to be on that Hawaiian beach...

I should check to see if there are any good shows in Kona while I'm there. Maybe Fay and I can take a dance class with old people....that actually sounds fun. So very Dirty Dancing.

mmm. 9 days till sun....

A Nite's Tale

On Friday nite, I went to see the Crystal Skulls and the Wedding Present. Overall, a good show. The four of us, who attended the show together, left early to meet other people at Edinburgh Castle for a scenester dance party. JG,MM drummer, was there with his new girlfriend. I guess she was in SF, acting as a stylist for a photoshoot and he decided to fly down to spend the weekend with her.

Her friends, some skaters from Reno, were really friendly and invited us to a BBQ at their house on Saturday (we didn't make it) . Anywayz, I was put off by Jeremiah's new girl. She seemed kinda rude and well... I wasn't the only one who thought so. I thought that she was super beautiful tho. Which goes to show that famous musicians can get the hottest women.

Well, today I received an email from Marje (Y's friend), passed on by Y., that said that JG's GF ended up being really nice and cool and that I should know that our first impressions were wrong. Ok, I said. Then I got another email. Turns out that bitchy-turned-nice girlfriend of Jeremiah is actually Shannyn Sossamon's little sister.

"Creeptastic" says Brett Cattani

He sent me this link and I have to agree. It totally freaks me out. Can you imagine dating a lookalike? Allz you'd have to say when describing him is "he looks just like so and so" and you'd be right on.

What Band Am I Quiz?

I blatantly stole this quiz (not the results)from
Fay, but she deserves it-- the Biatch met David Duchovny. Plus I am so Jesus and Mary Chain!

The Jesus And Mary Chain
You Are... The Jesus And Mary Chain.
You are moody and unpredictable. You are the
underdog who refuses to sink to the bottom. You
have more talent than you ever really let
anyone know. It almost seems as if you try and
sabotage whatever good things may be going on
in your life, and you often feel like you may
be giving people a bit too much of yourself.
Being in the spotlight is something you find to
be rather uncomfortable though you secretly
yearn to be loved by everyone. You lean toward
things of a darker nature and are prone to self
destructive tendencies. You struggle with
happiness for the simple fact that you seem to
be in love with your misery. You are a realist.

what Creation Records band are you? (complete with text and images)

Fever Pitch

Umm, so yeah, I watched this shitty film (Fever Pitch) at the Metreon last night. I wanted to hurl. It was so bad. And you'd think that the Farrelly brothers combined with the writing on Nick Hornsby would pump out something ok....but no! It really sucked.

But on a really, really positive note, Josef will be here this weekend!! And on a less equally positive note, Jeremiah Green from Modest Mouse will be here this weekend. Yes, I am a little obsessive about Modest Mouse kids.

I Had a Dream

I had a dream about Heaven the other night. I almost believed in the place. I was with a bunch of hikers, dressed in white, walking up a mountain of sand. The mountain was insanely difficult to climb and we kept rolling all the way down once we almost reached the top.

Eventually, we all made it.

I think we were in teams or something. Did I watch the Great Race before I fell asleep? Dunno.

Anywho, we reached the top. The story kind of changed at this point (as dreams do) and the hikers became people that I knew personally. People from work. From parties. From college. Etc. It turned out that we were taking a field trip to Heaven. I didn't believe in Heaven, so, I was really annoyed to have to take this trip. We got on some sort of monorail and took our seats. The train started going up, up, up... and there before me, in white and blue, hiding in the clouds, was the face of Jesus. I could see it for just a moment and I started to believe religion and all that shite. Maybe we were really going to seethis place called Heaven. There was a large gasp from my group of friends and all of the sudden, the train started to go down. It was like a rollercoaster. My stomach was turning andthe sky started getting darker. Then, the train stopped in - what appeared to be- a dungeon. We got out and made our way up some dark stairs, lit only by torchlight.

At the top of the stairs was a bowling alley. A bowling alley with flies and drunks and bad booze. We were trapped.

Again, the story changed and I found myself plotting to escape the bowling alley Heaven -- yes, Heaven turned out to be a bowling alley-- I spent the rest of my dream trying to figure out how to steal Uzis from the owners of the bowling alley. After I was successful, I started shooting up the place and made it outside, where there was nothing but men waiting for me, throwing hand grenades in an attempt to kill me.

I am SO not into Heaven.

Operation Ivy

I feel like ass today-- either I ate a big bowl of bad mussels, or a plate of bad calamari. Stupid tapas. Stupid food poisoning. My stomach still hurts and the weird thing is that I managed to STILL go out drinking when I was suffering from a minor poisoning.

After eating at Cha Cha Cha's, I went to Casanova's. Yoshi said that some friends of his from Lookout Records would be there. After half a drink at the bar, I had to run to the bathroom to puke. I was hurling and listening to a girl snort a few rails of coke. It was an awkward moment. After puking, I went back to the bar and was introduced to Jesse Michaels from Operation Ivy. See photo:

He and Yoshi are good friends-- or at least I hope so--because I started telling Jesse all about my puking experience in the bathroom and then asked him if my breath smelled like vomit. I have a knack for saying really weird things to people.

The really cool moment was when Jesse started telling me that Yoshi was one of the best guys he ever met, the best drummer in the world and then followed that up by asking Yosh if he would be interested in starting a new band with him (Jesse). My friend Lydia (visiting from London and really good musician) asked if she could play bass in their band. Jesse said sure. I think Jesse was geeking out at the fact the Lydia is friends with the band The Darkness. Jesse was like-- Ohmigod, how do you and Yoshi know Lydia---fucking awesome.
